Learning Outcome 3

Learning Outcome 3

I am not a huge fan of annotations, but I think it is very to have a deeper undertanding of the novel. In the past I used to be very general with my annotations but since leaning how to be more thoughtful it has definitely changed my approach. I find it helpful that some of these annotations can be used as thoughts or directly into my paper later which saves me a lot of time. In longer articles I found it helpful to to highlight quotes along with my thoughts so that I can potentially use it in my paper in the future. I also like to do questions when I am annotating because it really get me thinking on a deeper level and that can be beneficial when undertanding the text on a higher level. Along with questions I also have included undertanding and relationship questions to the text that are helpful when connecting to the readings. Finally, I also have challenge questions that I use if I am confused or disagree with the author. This helps me connect with the reading also because I am engaged in the reading. Ultimately annotations have helped me better understand the text and my critical reading skills have defiantly improved over the semester. During English class it was instructed to read the text and mark it up and then write an informal blog post about the text. In the hyperlink provided, this was a blog posts that I created after reading the article “Bad Feminist” by Roxanna Gay. In this annotation I provided down below I have a lot of U’s that I try and use to connect with the text to better understand it. There are a couple R’s for relate if I felt the same way like in this article, I could relate a little better since the topic was feminism and I am a woman myself. In my annotations I also have a lot of Q’s for questions and C’s for challenge and I like these ones because they help me break down important parts of the article that I should be focusing on to better understand the text as a whole. After learning this new method of annotations this semester in English, I found that they have been helpful in better undertanding the deeper meaning of the article and the actually processes of making annotations has been a smoother process for me.
